PROYECTOSMONCLOVA was established in 2005 in Mexico City as an experimental platform for emerging artists. Expanding and consolidating its program over the years the gallery has evolved into one of the most important forums for contemporary art in Mexico, emphasizing on the dialogue between local and international artists from different generations.

In 2012 the gallery moved to a newly designed location in Colonia Roma, which offers 2 exhibition spaces and a fully equipped video room for large-scale cinematographic projections thus offering their artists architectonic diversity and a platform of various formats. PROYECTOSMONCLOVA stages 6 to 10 exhibitions per year as well as a public program with talks, screenings and performances to enrich its discursive potential.

Julius Heinemann

Julius Heinemann (1984, Munich) lives and works in London. One of the most recurrent aspects of Julius Heinemann’s pictorial practice is the phenomenological investigation on space and time. The two-dimensional supports he uses –paper, wood or canvases – create the illusion of a three-dimensional space. Meanwhile, the installations he creates in situ, refer to a critical exploration on the materiality of pictorial means, the very substance of painting and the corresponding manner in which it unfolds. In a palimpsestic approach Heinemann reflects onto his work everything that surrounds him physically, be it the markings on a wall, imperfections, traces of light or of shadows, objects, etc., as well as his own mental activity: projecting his thoughts, memories and other abstractions. The artists’ gesture assimilates a mixture between surrealist écriture automatique and jaunty scribbles that emphasize the creative process.
